[   More safety for the helicopter crew and passengers   ]

Inovative touchdown area perimeter lighting with inground LED-strips
Instead of the usual green single lights with relatively large distances between themselves, the TLOF | FATO is surrounded by a light line

The landing site is clearly identified from a distance of about 3km
Faster approaches = less noise stress

Recommended by 5.3.8  ICAO Annex 14 Vol. II Heliports

[   Even more safety   ]

Helipad-LIS, an advanced landing information system, which provides current heliport weather data (wind speed, wind direction, temperature, dewpoint, atmospheric pressure and visibility) and other important information (e.g. webcam live-stream). By a smartphone or PDA the helicopter crew can access the LIS and receives in good time before landing or departure from the mission site already in time all (flight) safety-related information about the destination.

Current weather conditions also will be announced.
Listen to the Voice of the rooftop Helipad Hospital Colgne-Merheim and left click on the wind rose.

Other authorized, such as the heliport personnel on duty, the emergency unit reception and the predisposing rescue coordination center can also find out via Helipad.LIS about the current state of the landing site and the weather situation. Consequently, the heliport processes can be observed by competent persons to initiate actions immediately in case of operating malfunctions and all kinds of incidents.
[   ICAO Annex 14 Volume II Heliports - Amendment 4   ]

Apply of 4th Amdt. can happen after 18th November 2009 internationally !

The Standards have canged practice adjusted .

Among others the sizing of Final Approach & TakeOff Area and the physical characteristics of the Safety Area have been redefined .

[   Switzerland adopt European regulation for helicopters   ]

By November 2008 Switzerland has launched European safety rules of the JAA ( future EASA ) for commercial helicopter operations . The Swiss CAA ( FOCA ) BAZL gives timelimit ( max. til 2012 ) to companies to adjust the European requirements . The new law allows exceptions to the European rules due to special helicopter operations in the mountains and rescue flights . Among others in special situations it will be possible to operate rescue flights by one-engined helicopters . Aerial work with outside loads could be operated by existing national Swiss regulations .
[   December 2005 Germany launched new regulations   ]

for building and operating helicopter airfields !

The quality standards of existing and new heliports have changed important .
The rules of the international ICAO Annex 14 Volume II Heliports are converted into national German law .

Most of the German helipads must be adapted to the new standard acc. to size , marking , obstacle-freeness , illumination , safety equipment and fire-supression .

especially of rarely approached emergency-landingpads ,
is not guaranteed in many cases !

70% of all German Hospital-Helipads are so-called Emergency-Landingpads without permission acc. to Air-Traffic-Law , therefore officially not existing and not controlled by the authorities.

Again and again crews of the rescue helicopters are criticizing ,
that such years ago built landing pads involve a higher risk .
The always existing rest risk of one landing increases ,
the much the required obstacle-freeness is reduced .

Helipad owners must designate a responsible person , which has to care for safe operation as directed .
Trees are grown into approach- and take-off-path or narrow down the landing area . Illumination and markings are not in accordance with minimum requirements .

In the surrounding area new buildings are built .
Insufficient or faded markings are recognized by the crews too late . Time-consuming and therefore noise intensive test approaches are the consequence .

The crew of a helicopter doesn't have any view back-wards . If tail rotor strikes an obstacle , at missing torque compensation a crash is probable and full fire with corresponding consequences is not to exclude .
For reasons of flight-safety emergency-landingpads ,
which are not checked by the authority , absolutely should be responsibly kept fit to operate .

To this it is wise to consult an independent helipad expert .
[   Adequate consideration of safety and nature conservation   ]

By an expert analysis of the situation and the recommendations resulting from this helipad owners are able to include necessary modernization- and maintenance-work in the budget and to realize .

Possible claims of recourse due to air incidents probably therefore can be excluded .
